Manx Radio has reported that Member of the House of Keys, David Ashford, “wants to know how DESC will retain and attract staff,” and says “more clarity is needed over government’s plans to attract more teachers to the Isle of Man.”

During the Quayle Administration, the Department for “Education” increased non-teaching staff numbers by 36%. But not a single extra teacher was hired over that five year period.

Of course, it would have been better for such concerns to have been raised a long-time ago – but regardless, it is good to see Ashford now publicly raise concerns about teacher recruitment. Converts are always welcome to the cause!
